Elemental Lim

Phillip Lim SS14 NYFW

All shot by me using Canon 600D
This season, Phillip Lim purposely exercised a survey of raw landscapes, terrains, geodge-formations and life within a brute yet beautiful charged ecosystem. To me, it is all very elemental with a soft twist to each piece that he put on the runway. Very edgy downtown girl with attitude and a rebellious approach. What is your fave piece from the collection, mine is definitely that metallic vest. Have a fabulous weekend!

Why I decided not to go to Paris Fashion Week.

Nina Ricci F/W 13 via Labert and Associates

I lay awake all night with a disturbing question on my mind. I couldn't get my thoughts off it, and it wouldn't let me sleep either. Should I go to Paris Fashion Week ? By myself ? Should I, or should I not ?

Nga won't be there as she is back in London and has exams this week, but I do have the time. Actually. Uni hasn't started for me yet. We got several invitations, Nina Ricci, Viktor & Rolf etc. including backstage access. Backstage access is something amazing. You can take photos of the models behind the scenes, maybe take photos with the models if you can find the time, and it gives you the feeling of being right there in the middle of fashion industry. An excitement for people who don't work in the industry, that can't be compared to any other feeling.

It definitely is an opportunity, but is it really worth it ? Going to Fashion Week without being sponsored is not a cheap thing to do. In major cities like London, Paris, New York and Milano, living expenses are high. Thus when you come from a place like Berlin, where living expenses are low, it simply will cost you more money than you were going to spend if you just stayed in Berlin. If you plan it as a trip, and have saved money beforehand for your journey, it is a different matter. But if you suddenly get invitations, and are supposed to spend money from the funds you currently have, money you wanted to spend on something else, the questions of whether it is worth is pops up basically by itself.

The fact that Nga won't be there, and none of my other friends is willing to go with me, I started wondering, 'Do I really want to go by myself?'. I do know some people in Paris, but it is not the same feeling as going with your close friends. Shouldn't I be more independent and not rely on my friends for such a matter ? I have travelled by myself before, and it was never as much fun as travelling with my friends. If you compare this whole fashion week affair with a super fancy party, you are invited to. Would you go ? With the opportunity to maybe meet fancy people and with the opportunity to dress yourself fancily. But without much money to spend on the fancy drinks, and without knowing anyone at the party, would you be able to have fun ? I wouldn't. I most definitely wouldn't. That's why I decided not to go to Paris Fashion Week. Paris is a beautiful city, but I don't want to be there on my own, without much money in my pocket. Shows and backstage, and all excitement aside.

I'm choosing to stay in Munich instead, to spend the time with my friends, and to have fun, far away from the fashion week turmoil and far away from Paris. The good thing about fashion week and paris  are that they don't vanish. So I might miss out this season, but there will always be a next time. As there will also always be a fancier party to attend. Besides I still can have my share of Paris Fashion Week thanks to style.com and the many other bloggers who are going.

Cheers,
Julia

Moving into a boyfriends room

Two cinema displays - godknowswhy.
My Macbook Air. His Macbook pro. The mouse pad I got him in Beijing.

This closet solution cost me less than 20€ thanks to IKEA.
My H&M rings and boyfriends custom made diamond ring (which is basically mine now because I wear it and he doesn't : P)
Here some first impressions. There was a lot to be done, but we are almost finished. Iam still looking for an apartment in Berlin, but until I find one, I guess I will just stay at my boyfriend's. His room had to undergo major reconstruction for me to want to stay here, because it was a boy's room before. And Iam a picky girl. It definitely needed some more prettiness, before I was willing to 'move in'. But a good boyfriend as he is, of course he agreed to changing the interior and to leave me some corners for my stuff. I must say, the room looks so much nicer now. I know moving in with boyfriend's isn't always that easy, as both parties sometimes aren't able to compromise. But as my boyfriend really wanted me to stay with him, he let me do whatever I wanted to do, and did whatever I wanted him to do.
In case you want to know how it looked like before, click here or here. There are more photos of how the room looks like right now in that album. I will show the complete room once iam done with my interior work. (Can't wait to find an apartment and furnish my own place !)

I bet some of you are moving right now for uni as well. Make sure your new place is nice and comfortable, it's so important. Buy a nice vase and flowers every now and then. Only take things with you that you really need to avoid messiness. And make sure you have a nice spacious desk for work. That you don't just use as shelf space haha. Having a desk to work at will improve your productiveness for sure ! Btw, anyone knowing of a nice apartment in Berlin for me ?

My Navy Blue Vintage Dior Coat

Vintage dior coat, Vintage Christian Dior, Navy Blue Coat, Beautiful coat, oversize coat

black studded loafers, black loafers, cool loafers, zara loafers
coat - Christian Dior / shirt - H&M / rings - H&M & Vintage / studded loafers / Zara
Iam not much of an online shopper, because I prefer to try clothes on before I actually buy them. I know you can return clothes to online shops if they don't fit, but it's stress I prefer to avoid. When I was in Vietnam last year with not so many shopping opportunities around, a bank account filled with money I didn't have access to from Vietnam, and my online banking dates always in my agenda, I felt the urge to buy clothes online for the first time. I bought so many things, checked out Asos and Ebay all the time. A lot of my purchases turned out to be a mispurchase. Not among them was this beautiful Dior coat. Designer clothing really is different to mass production clothing. The quality of this coat is worth every cent I paid for it. A bargain. 62 US$ thanks to Ebay. I guess it's from the 80's, it had massive shoulder pads, but I got them removed for free. Now it's just the perfect oversized coat for autumn and currently the favorite piece in my closet.

Ruhepool Berlin: A Japanese Bath

It was so cool sitting in these. I want one in my home !
100% sea salt as body scrub.
Ginger tea provided next to the bath tub.

A spa is considered something rather luxurious in my circles, because going to a spa is connected with a price range that we can, but not easily, afford. Unlike in Vietnam, where you can get massages and spa packages at as little as 20€. So it's not wonder that my friends and me, while in Vietnam, go to the spa and for massages all the time, while in Germany, spa and massages are subjects that never cross our minds. And after having stumbled upon the German blog I love spa, and going through her spa experiences in the capital city Berlin, I started wondering, why actually ? Why don't I treat myself for a massage and pure relaxation time once in a while, when I actually love love love getting massages and spa treatments like facials ? You are supposed to live your life doing whatever makes you feel good, and if some time off at the spa makes me feel good, isn't it worth a consideration ? If I just save one Euro a day, I can afford getting a professional massage once in two months. That is better than once a year. In Vietnam. Isn't it ?

Because I grew fond of that idea, I decided to become a more regular spa visitor. Thanks to Jenny from i love spa, who has tested most of the spas around Berlin and writes very generously about her experiences, I decided on Ruhepool Berlin. Ruhepool, because they have this treatment called a Japanese bathing ritual. The little Japan freak inside of me couldn't resist, I had to try it !

Ruhepool is located in Prenzlauer Berg, and looks nothing like a spa outside. It looks more like a hairdresser/interior shop, because its interior is really nice ! And they offer hair cuts as well. I made my reluctant boyfriend come with me, and at first it was really awkward. You get into a seperate room with two boxes of hot water, with a temperature of your choice, and the really nice receptionist explains everything to you in detail. And then she leaves, and it feels awkward. It's like going to the sauna for the first time. Getting naked somewhere, which is not your home. But eventually you get used to it. The water was freaking hot, even at the lowest temperature possible of 39 degrees. I sat in there and I was sweating. Sweating, drinking ginger water and playing around with the provided sea salt and bathing milk. We were supposed to stay in the water for half an hour but only endured fifteen minutes. Like sauna. Just that you are sitting in hot water instead. I felt like having run a marathon afterwards, and just laid on the daybed for the rest of the time, until we were called for our massages. Boyfriend doesn't like massages so he got a facial instead. All in all, I was pretty satisfied. I came out glowing and feeling very relaxed and all. I wouldn't do it again though. Because I don't think it's worth the money. The setting and the idea behind it is nice and all, but we didn't get rid of the feeling that it was just bathing after all. And for just bathing, I can also stay at home, you know. No next time for me, which doesn't mean that I didn't enjoy it. Just not worth my money. Try it, if you want to bath in a cool tub outside your home and get a massage afterwards though. It will make your skin feel fab !

Any of you guys having recommendations for me, which spa in Berlin I should visit the next time ? And maybe what treatment to get ? I can never decide.

Wang Spring Fourteen : Parental Advisory Explicit

all shot by me using a Canon 600D
When i first saw Behati on that runway, the first thing that came into mind was Adam ( is he somewhere in the front row watching his gorg fiance) but then what distracted me straight away was the curious alphabet logic that Alex brought on board this season. Messing with the concept of censorship, cults, youth culture and perhaps most notably, branding, Wang displayed something we haven't seen before with the play of logo, subtle camouflage and menswear dressing. It was a mixture of something innocent and a bit wild at heart and no one did it better than Georgia May Jagger in that sheer ' Parental Advisory Explicit' sweat shirt which i am sure will be every blogger/fashion icons' must have next season. Even though i was not very sure about those chunky-to-the-max Mary Jane pumps ( that caused a lot of trouble backstage for Hannah and some of the young interns), those crispy cotton skirt , Erin, Joan in those dresses in laser cut leather with Wang logo on the surface definitely won me over. Narcissistic or not, Wang continued to prove that he is one of the most anticipated designer at New York Fashion Week. Let me know what you think of the collection. Stay in tuned for my Phillip Lim impressions. Fabulous weekend to all my beautiful readers!  With love <3 N
